Phoebe Hall - 'Through The Phone' Single Review

09/01/2022
The bedroom-pop wave has never been more exciting to be a part of, and Phoebe Hall is quickly jumping to the front. Polished production, pristine vocal melodies and heartwarming synths are the glue to her signature sound that is infectious. Lyrically in her music, Phoebe wants to encourage others to be themselves as she refuses to shy away from who she is, writing about her experiences and identity with significant honesty. Phoebe pours energy and emotion into her music, exploring these themes with reference to her queerness in particular.

Phoebe is quickly becoming a staple within the UK's live circuit, having just recently supported Larkins on their 4k+ capacity UK tour. 2022 is set to be an exciting year, with the potential to expand her fanbase even more with a debut EP which is to be released later this year. Speaking about this she reveals: "The record as a whole covers a few different messages but I think it's a real deep dive into queer love and the challenges and beauties of that from feeling shame and frustration to pure joy and excitement."

Phoebe is the latest signing to Fear Records, and has received support from the likes of BBC Introducing and was shortlisted for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge Introducing competition. Phoebe will also be playing All Points East Festival in London this weekend!

Phoebe's latest single, Through The Phone, feels like it is straight out of a coming of age movie. It is light-sounding and quite beautiful, however I do not feel like Phoebe's voice particularly stands out from anything that is out in the world at the moment. So whilst the song itself is quite fabulous, it is nondescript and not fresh-sounding, which I feel is quite important when releasing new music.
